The Benefits Of An Air Cylinder

clip_image002_thumb2

Air cylinders are mechanical devices which are used to compress gas and produce a force in a particular motion. In order for these cylinders to work efficiently, it is essential for them to have an air piston for the gas to move in the right direction.

Pneumatic cylinders or air cylinders can’t function without an air piston. In order for these cylinders to work efficiently it is very important for the air to get converted into kinetic energy which can expand with pressure. This pressure can be created with an air piston. An air piston helps to keep the cylinder clean. It also prevents it from making a noise which is why it is always better to have them fitted into the air cylinder.

Air cylinders are very popular in indoor as well as outdoor uses. While they are popular for medical uses indoor, they are also used as outdoor equipment for construction.

There are various types of air cylinders. These vary in function and size. Some of the types of air cylinders are:

Single Acting Cylinders

Single Acting Cylinders or SAC generally uses the pressure that is imparted by air that is compressed and this creates an outward driving force. It also creates a spring action so that the piston returns to the home position.

Double Acting Cylinders

Double Acting Cylinders or DAC uses air force to retract and extend strokes. The DAC usually has two ports to let in air. One of the ports is for the out stroke and the other one is for the in stroke.

Telescoping Cylinder

Telescoping Cylinders or Telescopic cylinders can be in the form of single or double acting cylinders. The Telescoping Cylinder has a piston rod nested in a pipe that has succeeding stages of increasing diameter. When the actuation happens each succeeding stage and the piston rode telescope out and form a segmented piston.
