Happening right now: the Minnesota House of Representatives just voted to pass a marriage equality bill by a vote of 75-59.
The bill moves on Monday to the state’s Democratically-controlled Senate, where leaders are confident they’ve got the votes necessary to pass it.
Pro-equality Democratic Governor Mark Dayton has promised to sign the bill into law if it reaches his desk.
The turnaround on this issue in Minnesota has been nothing short of remarkable: just last November, Minnesotans beat back a proposed constitutional amendment that would have enshrined marriage discrimination into that state’s governing document. Now they’re on the cusp of becoming the 12th marriage equality state. Amazing, isn’t it?
Stay tuned, folks!
