In case you weren’t already aware, a meteor exploded above a city in the Urals region of western Siberia today with a shockwave that damaged buildings and sent shattered glass flying, injuring as many as 1,000 people. It also reportedly caused the roof of a factory to collapse.
Cell phone cameras, dashboard video recorders, and other devices throughout the city of Chelyabinsk captured the fireball and the explosion, and the footage is quite dramatic. Warning: if you happen to speak Russian, I’ve been informed that a few of these videos (understandably) contain some colorful language as spectators try to figure out what just happened. Apparently there was even some confusion as to whether or not they were under artillery attack.
